Goals & Content

The participants


  • Understand the meaning of effect-directedanalysis as well as advantages and disadvantagesof the different techniques
  • Survey the variety of planar assays (on surface,in situ, in the adsorbent bed)
  • Know the streamlined workflow on one plate, i.e. parallel separation of compounds in complex samples, discovery of active compounds and theircharacterization by chromatographic, spectroscopic and spectrometric information(3-20 min/sample for up to 20 samples in parallel)
  • Recognize the highly efficient combination ofplanar chromatography with biological andbiochemical or other effect-directed assays
  • Realize the power of hyphenated HPTLC and theunique benefit of effect-directed profiles

  • Antimicrobials via Gram-negative Aliivibrio fischeriand Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis bioassays
  • Enzyme inhibitors via α- and ß-glucosidase,α-amylase, acetyl- and butyrylcholinesterase,tyrosinase and ß-glucuronidase assays
  • Genotoxic compounds via SOS-Umu-C bioassay,cytotoxic bioassay, neurotoxic bioassay
  • Endocrine-acting compounds via planar yeastestrogen/androgen screen (pYES/pYAS)
  • Multiplex planar bioassays: agonistic andantagonistic effect detection (pYAES/pYAAS) with verification (pYAVES/pYAVAS) and detection ofsynergists → 4-fold multiplex
  • nanoGIT+active: on-surface simulated static digestivesystem including separation and effect detection
  • On-surface metabolization via S9 liver enzymesystem
